The
School of Taxation lost a dear friend. loyal alumnus and beloved
faculty member on June 4, 2OO4, when Thomas G. ("Sam")
Manolakas (MS 86) died of cancer.
Many GGU students experienced Manolakas' adept skills in the classroom;
he taught in the LLM program 20 years ago and returned to teach in
the MS tax program this past spring.
Manolakas was of counsel to Boutin Dentino Gibson Di Giusto Hodell
Inc., and was highly regarded as an expert in the areas of partnership
and real-estate taxation. He conducted
many seminars on these topics. "Sam was a brilliant tax lawyer,
scholar, lecturer and author
as well as a loyal friend and generous contributor to the School
of Tax and the tax community" said Dean Mary Canning. "His
colorful character will be greatly missed." Manolakas also was
a
founding member of the School of Taxation advisory board.
To honor Manolakas and his years of dedication to future generations
of tax professionals,
GGU is creating a scholarship fund in his memory.
